What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?
Neuromodulators like BOTOX®, Dysport®, & Daxxify™ are often referred to as our “wrinkle relaxers.” These injections work by blocking the contraction of specific muscles, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions and muscle movements. By preventing the formation of deep lines and smoothing out dynamic wrinkles, they allow for natural expressions to shine through.

Before Treatment
To make your experience as comfortable as possible and limit potential side effects like bleeding and bruising, we recommend staying away from blood thinning medications like Ibuprofen and Aspirin before your appointment, limiting alcoholic beverages, taking an oral herbal supplement called Arnica, and eating fresh pineapple. The day of your appointment, we recommend eating and drinking plenty of water. We want to make sure your body’s in the best shape possible for your treatment.
During Treatment
During your appointment, the provider will start by taking your before photo for your chart, reviewing your medical history and pre-treatment questionnaire, and asking you to perform different expressions to assess your musculature. The provider will then use a sterilizing wipe or pad over the injection site and slightly pinch the area to raise your skin up, injecting the product using a tiny needle. The injection itself is pretty quick and most clients feel little to no pain.
After Treatment
We recommend avoiding heavy lifting, exercise, alcoholic beverages, and keeping your head above your heart for 4 hours following treatment. When booking, give yourself up to two weeks before any events as bruising may be expected. Our vasculature is very complex! Additionally, no facial treatments like waxing, laser, facials, massages, or chemical peels for the next two weeks. There’s minimal downtime, letting you get back to your day right away!
Results & Timeline
You might start noticing changes within 7-10 days, and your full results should be visible after 2 weeks. To ensure you’re thrilled with the outcome, we’ll schedule a follow-up or “sprinkle” appointment two weeks after your initial injection to assess progress and consider adding more units if needed to achieve your desired outcome.
Results typically last around 3-4 months, but this can vary based on factors like muscle strength, lifestyle, and metabolism.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify?
Much like we refer to Ibuprofen as Advil and it can come in different brands such as Motrin- every “brand” of Botox is botulinum toxin type A, just manufactured slightly differently. Botox and Dysport use an albumin base, whereas Daxxify uses a peptide base. Daxxify would be a safe option for clients with an egg allergy or who prefer a vegan option for treatment.
How long is the appointment?
Once you and the provider discuss which areas you are interested in targeting and the appropriate amount of units, the appointment takes no longer than 15 minutes with the actual injection time being less than five minutes.
Botox/Dysport/Daxxify appointments at Thistle are 15 min for established clients and 30 min for new clients or if you have not been seen within the past year.
I have bumps at the injection site, is that normal?
Immediately after your injections, you might experience some temporary bumps that resemble “bee stings” which will go away after about 30 minutes. These bumps are normal and are just the product waiting to be absorbed into your muscle.
Will Botox permanently change my face?
The effects of Botox are NOT permanent and if you are less than pleased with your treatment, your muscle movement will return to normal gradually in 3 to 4 months. However, keeping up with Botox treatments may help your fine lines/wrinkles to not permanently become etched into your skin.
Who is Botox not ideal for?
Unfortunately, this treatment is not suitable for expecting or breastfeeding mommas.
