What is SkinPen Microneedling?
SkinPen Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses tiny sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-channels stimulate your body’s natural healing process, increasing collagen and elastin production to improve texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, tighten skin, and minimize the look of pores.
- Facial rejuvenation
- Improve texture and tone
- Minimize appearance of pores
- Stimulates collagen production
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Softens appearance of acne scarring
Before Treatment
In preparation for your SkinPen treatment, we recommend that you refrain from taking any blood thinning medications or supplements such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil. We also ask that you avoid any alcohol consumption at least 48 hours prior to your treatment. Avoid skin irritants and intentional tanning about 7 days prior and any active ingredients such as retinol 1 to 2 days before.
During Treatment
At the beginning of your SkinPen appointment, we will take the first few minutes to review your pre-treatment questionnaire and medical history. We will proceed with applying a topical lidocaine cream that we will leave on for about 30 minutes for comfort. The treatment itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Additional pain management tools are available for comfort.
After Treatment
You may expect redness and slight swelling immediately after treatment, which are completely normal and will get progressively better over the next few days. Residual flakiness and dryness can be expected for up to 2 weeks.
Results & Timeline
Improved results may be seen after your first session but a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended for best results. Additional treatments may be needed to get your desired goal. We recommend a yearly maintenance treatment to top off your results.
To maximize your results, we suggest adding PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) also known as “liquid gold.” When combined with microneedling, PRP enhances collagen stimulation and accelerates healing by using your body’s own growth factors.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between SkinPen microneedling and Morpheus8 RF microneedling?
SkinPen is a collagen-stimulating treatment that improves surface concerns like texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, and mild acne scarring with little downtime.
Morpheus8 goes deeper by combining microneedling with radiofrequency energy, targeting both the surface and deeper layers of skin. It’s designed for tightening, contouring, and improving more advanced concerns like laxity, deeper wrinkles, and crepiness.
What does it feel like?
Our team will apply a topical numbing cream that we will leave on for about 30 minutes for comfort. We like to use the word “spicy” to describe the sensation as most patients report mild discomfort, but feel it is tolerable for the duration of the treatment.
What is my downtime?
Afterward, you may notice some redness or mild swelling, which is totally normal. While most people are able to return to their regular activities within a day or two, we recommend allowing up to 2 weeks of ‘social downtime’ as your skin fully heals and settles.
What treatments can I pair with my SkinPen treatment?
We love pairing SkinPen with PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich-fibrin) injections or topical application to amplify your SkinPen results and boost healing time. We love adding a BioRePeel to target pigmentation, improve overall tone, and boost collagen production.
Who is it not ideal for?
Unfortunately, this treatment is not suitable for expecting or breastfeeding mommas.
