Who you gonna call? Mythbusters! đź‘»
Okay, maybe not the kind with proton packs but we’re here to bust some of the biggest misconceptions haunting the world of skincare and aesthetics. Our goal is to help you separate fact from fiction so you can feel empowered, informed, and confident in your aesthetic journey. Grab your pumpkin spice latte, pull up your coziest blanket, and let’s chase down a few myths that need to disappear for good.
Myth: “If I didn’t visibly shed after a chemical peel, it didn’t work.”
When we apply a chemical peel, the real work actually begins at the cellular level. The solution we apply initiates a controlled response in the skin which stimulates cell turnover, collagen production, and renewal within the deeper layers. This process helps improve tone, texture, and overall skin health long after the surface shedding has passed.
Visible peeling is one possible side effect and not the goal or the measure of success. Even if your skin doesn’t physically peel, those rejuvenating changes are still happening beneath the surface!
Myth: “If I stop Botox, my wrinkles will get worse.”
This is a very common misconception! Wrinkle relaxers like Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify work by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for expression or dynamic lines. This softens existing wrinkles and prevents new ones from forming over time.
If you decide to take a break from treatments, your skin will simply return to its natural baseline. Your lines and wrinkles won’t suddenly worsen but rather gradually reappear as your muscles regain full movement.
However, with continued and consistent treatments, you’ll notice that your lines may improve over time. That’s because your muscles stay more relaxed for longer periods, reducing the repetitive motion that etches wrinkles deeper into the skin.
Myth: “Botox is only used to treat wrinkles.”
Botox, Dysport, or Daxxify work by temporarily relaxing the muscles it’s injected into. It blocks the nerve signals that cause those muscles to contract, which not only softens existing lines but also prevents new ones from forming over time. But did you know we can use Botox strategically to reshape and rebalance facial expressions?
Other common areas we treat:
+ Brow lift: targets specific forehead and eye muscles to open up the eyes and lift the brows
+ Nasal flaring: to slim the sides of the nose and prevent flaring
+ Lift the nasal tip: aka “Tinkerbell tox”, to lift a downturned nose
+ Gummy smile: relax the muscles of the mouth to reduce a gummy smile
+ Lip flip: show more visible pink to give the illusion of a fuller lip
+ Chin dimpling: soften the “orange peel” appearance of the chin
+ Jawline contouring: lift and contour the jawline
+ Masseter: jawline slimming and jaw tension relief
+ Platysmal bands: soften neck lines
+ Hyperhidrosis: reduces excessive sweating by calming overactive sweat glands
Myth: “Radiofrequency treatments melt away the fat that makes me look youthful.”
It’s a common misconception that treatments like Morpheus8 or other radiofrequency (RF) microneedling devices destroy “good fat” and cause the face to look hollow. We’re here to tell you that like any aesthetic treatment, outcomes depend heavily on the hands and training of the provider performing it.
At Thistle Medical Aesthetics, your safety and natural results are our top priority. Our providers are extensively trained and follow manufacturer protocols to ensure precision and consistency. The beauty of Morpheus8 lies in its customization. The device allows us to adjust both the heat and the depth of the needles to target specific layers of the skin.
In areas where we want to preserve volume and structure, we treat more superficially to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin without impacting underlying fat. For areas where we’re addressing looseness or excess tissue, we can adjust to a deeper setting to remodel and contour more effectively. So no, radiofrequency treatments won’t melt away the good fat!
