As the seasons change, so should our skincare routines! If your skin’s been feeling drier than normal, it may be time to switch up a few things in your regimen to bring back your glow. Keep reading for our winter skincare recommendations while outside temps are low.

The harsher colder months may take a toll on your skin resulting in a compromised skin barrier. Your skin barrier is your body’s outside defense system against external forces such as harsh weather, toxins, free-radicals, and other agents. It also helps to maintain homeostasis (a fancy way of stating how our body self-regulates internally from external conditions) and prevent water loss to hydrate our bodies. When our barrier is compromised, it can lead to sensitized skin often portrayed as redness, itching, inflammation, and even flakiness (we definitely don’t want that.) Protecting your skin’s barrier with a supporting skincare routine strengthens the skin resulting in a stronger foundation and prevents transepidermal water loss or TEWL.

Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) is categorized by water loss in the epidermis that can lead to dehydration and skin dryness. Our goal is to prevent water loss, protect and balance the skin, and retain hydration.

Prevention: A custom skincare regimen will protect the skin against the dry and cold air thus preventing TEWL.

Protection: A strong barrier aids in blocking skin irritants and bacteria from penetrating the skin.

Retention: The goal is to have low TEWL as our skin retains water properly.

In the morning, we suggest opting for a hydrating and conditioning cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin from its natural oils. Follow up with a vitamin c serum to fight against free-radical damage (outside pollutants, bacteria, etc), hyaluronic acid to assist in water retention, and a hydrating moisturizer for firm and supple skin! As always, apply your sunscreen daily.

Your AM routine:

-Step 1: hydrating cleanser

– We recommend our Amandola Milk Cleanser.

-Step 2: vitamin c

– We recommend our Brightening Vitamin C Serum.

-Step 3: hydrating serum

– We recommend our Ultra Hydrating Serum.

-Step 4: daytime moisturizer

– We recommend our Lipid Replenishing Soft Cream.

-Step 5: sunscreen

– We recommend our Brilliant SPF 50.

Even on nights when you don’t feel like doing your nighttime routine (we’re all guilty of it) your future self will thank you for staying consistent! We recommend starting off with a double cleanse— the first cleanse to remove makeup and gunk and the second to thoroughly clean the skin from the day’s impurities. Follow up with active ingredients such as a retinol based serum to boost collagen production and slow down signs of aging and a hyaluronic acid serum to help bring hydration to the skin’s surface. Finish your routine with a rich, luxurious moisturizer so your skin drinks up the hydration and repairs your barrier while you’re sleeping.

Your PM routine:

-Step 1: cleanser (double cleanse)

– We recommend our Vitamin Veil Oil Cleanser and Amandola Milk Cleanser.

-Step 2: active serum (retinol therapy)

– We recommend our Nighttime Repair Lotion.

-Step 3: hydrating serum

– We recommend our Ultra Hydrating Serum.

-Step 4: rich, luxurious moisturizer

– We recommend our Lipid Replenishing Soft Cream.
