What is Diolaze Laser Hair Reduction?
Diolaze uses selective photothermolysis to safely target and heat melanin in the hair follicle. The laser energy converts to heat, damaging the follicle and slowing future growth while leaving surrounding skin untouched. Over time, these treated follicles are eliminated by the body, leading to a significant and long-lasting reduction in unwanted hair.
Areas We Treat
Diolaze is effective for targeting dark, coarse hair in areas of the body, including:
- Under arms
- Upper lip
- Side burns
- Chin
- Legs
- Back & Shoulders
- Bikini & Brazilian areas
- Chest
- Abdomen
Before Treatment
In preparation for your Laser Hair Reduction treatment, we recommend that you refrain from taking any blood thinning medications or supplements such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil. No recent sun exposure or self-tanning creams for about 3 to 4 weeks before your treatment. Discontinue use of products containing retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) a week before treatment.
For melanin-rich skin types, pre-treatment may be recommended for 4 weeks before treatment.
During Treatment
After thoroughly reviewing your medical history and pre-treatment questionnaire, we’ll start prepping the area with Puracin, a cleansing agent. Protective goggles will be provided before we begin. To keep you comfortable, a cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area. This not only allows the laser handpiece to glide smoothly across the skin but also helps cool the surface immediately as each follicle is targeted. Additionally, we will do a test patch to ensure the treatment is tolerable and make any adjustments if needed. During the treatment, you may feel a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snap. Some clients notice a faint burning smell, which is completely normal and just the laser targeting the hair follicles.
After Treatment
Your skin will appear flushed and red, similar to a mild sunburn, immediately after the procedure. Some swelling is common and typically resolves within a few days. As your skin begins to heal, areas of pigmentation will darken over the following days, taking on a “coffee ground” appearance. This is a normal part of the process as these spots will naturally slough off, revealing a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion underneath.
Results & Timeline
Most clients benefit from a series of at least 6 treatments spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for optimal reduction. You’ll notice hair shedding after your first treatment, but full results require multiple sessions as hair grows in cycles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Diolaze a permanent solution for removing unwanted hair?
Our laser hair reduction treatment is not a 100% permanent solution but it will help reduce the hair follicle in treated areas so that hair returns sparser and thinner. Maintenance treatments are encouraged for best results.
Am I a candidate for Diolaze if I have blonde or red hair?
Diolaze works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in your hair follicles. Because blonde, white, grey, and some shades of red hair have little to no melanin, the laser can’t effectively “see” or damage the follicle.
We recommend scheduling a consultation so our providers can assess your hair and skin type in person.
Should I shave before my laser session?
Yes! For the best results, we ask that you shave the treatment area 24 to 48 hours before your Diolaze session. This ensures the laser can target the hair follicle beneath the skin. Shaving is the only recommended method of hair removal before treatment so please avoid waxing, plucking, or threading, as these remove the follicle that the laser needs to target.
When you come in for your initial consultation, we prefer the area to be unshaven so our providers can assess the color and density of your hair.
Who is it not ideal for?
Unfortunately, this treatment is not suitable for expecting or breastfeeding mommas.
