Hello gorgeous! As women, we know we’re all juggling so much these days—work, family, social life, and an endless list of responsibilities. It’s so easy to put ourselves on the back burner to make sure everyone else around us is being taken care of. When we do find a few moments to ourselves, we often feel guilty for taking that time for some self care. As if that wasn’t enough, we also battle the never-ending cycle of comparison and self-doubt, always feeling like we should be more and doing more.
It’s time to break free from that mindset. Loving yourself isn’t about striving for perfection but about accepting where you’re at right now, flaws and all. When you invest in yourself (whether that’s through daily movement, nourishment, mindset work, or skincare) you’re not just doing it for you but showing up as your best self for everyone in your life. Let’s make 2025 the year we stop apologizing for putting ourselves first!
Breaking the Cycle of Comparison & Self-Doubt
We live in a world where we compare ourselves to others in many aspects of life. A scroll through social media can quickly turn into a comparison game of “I wish I looked like her”, “Why can’t I be that weight”, or “Why don’t I have that life?” These comparisons only teach us negative self-thoughts and behaviors. But here’s the thing… you were never meant to look like, live like, or be anyone but YOU.
So, how do we break the comparison trap? First of all, you are in the body you’re in forever, so it’s time you gave yourself permission to absolutely CHERISH and LOVE yourself, from head to toe. That version of someone else’s life you’re seeing online is exactly that… a version. It’s the best angles, the best lighting, the best moments. No one is posting their bad days, their insecurities, or the 100 outtakes before they got that one perfect photo. It’s so easy to get stuck in the comparison cycle, but what really works to break out of that cycle is to celebrate your own unique journey and progress.
Instead of measuring yourself against someone else’s journey, celebrate your own! The key to celebrating yourself is through small acts of kindness. The best way to start is to shift your focus inward. When you catch yourself comparing, ask: What am I proud of in my own life? Another act of kindness is to unplug when needed. Turn off notifications for a bit or limit your screen time after a certain time. Also, surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, not those who make you feel less than.
Building Healthy Habits for Self-Love
Self-love is so much more than a bubble bath (although those are amazing too). Small, consistent changes and being willing to take action will help you feel your best from the inside out. Here are some simple habits you can start implementing today…
– Morning & Evening Routines: Whether it’s journaling, meditation, or a few minutes of stretching, setting the tone for your day and finishing up your night can help you feel grounded and balanced.
– Get Active: Movement is so good for your body and mind! Find a fitness routine that makes you feel strong, whether it’s getting your steps in everyday, going to a yoga class, or lifting weights. Don’t focus on perfection or reaching a number on the scale. Instead, focus on how it makes you feel.
– Nourish Your Body: Food is fuel. It’s not about dieting but about nourishing your body with wholesome, satisfying meals that make you feel energized and content.
The key here is consistency. It’s not about doing it perfectly. It’s actually about showing up for yourself every day even if it’s just a small gesture. Eventually, these little moments of self-care will become second nature to you!
Negative Self-Talk is a Confidence Killer
It’s so easy to fall into that spiral of self-doubt. But here’s the thing, those thoughts are not facts. You can always rewrite your narrative! Start by recognizing when negative self-talk creeps in, and challenge it. Ask yourself, “Would I say this to a friend?” If the answer is no, then don’t say it to yourself, either. Instead, flip that negative thought into a positive affirmation. Every time you start thinking “I’m not enough,” reframe it.
For example, if you catch yourself thinking “I can’t do this,” try replacing it with “I am more than capable of handling this.” Or, if you’re thinking “I’m not good enough,” switch it to “I am worthy of success and happiness.” Shifting your mindset positively programs your brain to think only good thoughts and by doing this, you attract the life, the person, and the mentality that you’ve always wanted. Confidence isn’t about looking a certain way but about knowing your worth and treating yourself with the same kindness that you’d give a friend. And it all starts with a simple mindset shift.
Self-Care Helps You Live Life to the Fullest
Here’s why all of this matters: when you prioritize self-care, you’re not just taking care of yourself physically, you’re setting yourself up to live your life to the fullest. Self-love isn’t just about feeling good (though, it’s a nice side effect). It’s about showing up as the best version of you: strong, energized, and ready to tackle whatever life throws at you.
When you take time for yourself, it reflects in every aspect of your life as stronger relationships, greater personal achievements, and a life that feels aligned with your values. Imagine the confidence boost you’ll get from walking through life feeling like your best self, because you know you’ve been taking care of yourself.
Choose Yourself in 2025
We all lead busy lives and self-care can sometimes feel like one more thing on the to-do list. You cannot give your best to others if you are running on empty. You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Start small and show up for yourself in ways that feel good to you.
Maybe it’s a morning affirmation. Maybe it’s a skincare routine that makes you glow. Maybe it’s lifting weights and feeling like a badass. Maybe it’s taking a deep breath and saying, I deserve this. And yes, maybe it’s treating yourself to Botox (which we fully support. 😉) Whatever self-care looks like for you, the important thing to do is just start. You deserve to feel good. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to choose you! This is YOUR year. It’s time to choose YOU, unapologetically. We only get one life and we deserve to spend it happily!
Sending lots of love your way!
XO,
The Thistle Team
