Dermal filler injections are one of the most commonly known minimally invasive procedures in the market that addresses multiple cosmetic concerns, one of which is loss of volume in the lips. As we age, we lose volume everywhere (including our lips)! Based on your genetics, you may still have the volume and plump that you had when you were younger or like most of us, have lost some lip definition over the years. Our goal at Thistle Medical Skincare Studio is to not prevent the aging process but instead take steps to help you age more gracefully by achieving natural looking results. In turn, you will look rejuvenated and exude confidence in your own skin.
What is lip filler?
Lip filler is the commonly known term used for dermal filler injections in the lips. Most dermal fillers are made from a naturally-occurring substance found in our bodies called hyaluronic acid (HA). This gel-like product is artistically and skillfully injected by an aesthetic provider into certain areas of the face, such as lips, for added volume.

When should I consider lip filler?
We’d like to preface this question with a disclaimer that aesthetic treatments/injectables are completely optional and you should only get them if YOU want them. Don’t ever let anyone pressure you into thinking you need to look a certain way or get something done because a friend did! Whether or not you choose to proceed with aesthetic treatments, it’s your choice and we respect that!
Now, if aesthetic treatments such as lip filler injections are something on your aesthetic bucket list, our aesthetic nurses are here to help! The most common reason many women (and men) look to receive lip filler is to increase the size of their lips but there are other not as commonly known reasons as well, including:
– Facial balancing. As we age, we lose volume in certain areas of the face that may make us feel that some of our features are a little unbalanced (and that’s totally normal). We can subtly improve your facial symmetry through facial balancing techniques by treating multiple areas.
– Correcting any asymmetries of your lips. We all have some sort of asymmetry in our faces. Our lips come in all different shapes and sizes.
– Hydration. The dermal fillers that we use in our studio are hydrophilic aka “water loving.” This means that your lips stay hydrated and are less likely to be dry or chapped.
– They’re dissolvable. Yes, you read that correctly. Hyaluronic acid based fillers are dissolvable! Should you not be 1,000% pleased with your results (although we’d like to argue that you’ll be over-the-moon happy with your new look), there’s always the option to dissolve.
How do I know which dermal filler is right for me?
There are many different brands of dermal fillers but some of our favorites are Restylane, Juvederm, Revanesse, and RHA brands of fillers. Each brand has different products with varying levels of thickness that are made for specific areas of the face. During your initial complimentary consultation with an aesthetic nurse, we will assess your current health and medical history to make sure you’re a good candidate for dermal fillers and recommend products based on your aesthetic goals, facial anatomy, and budget.
How can I start my lip filler journey?
Any dermal filler injections should be done by a licensed and experienced provider that is knowledgeable in facial anatomy (this is not the time to look for a Groupon!) After assessing your candidacy for dermal fillers, our team of skilled aesthetic nurse injectors will offer a custom treatment plan and make the best recommendation based on your specific goals. Your skincare goals and facial anatomy (and the nuances that come with it) are unique to you so it’s important to find nurse injectors that are skillful and knowledgeable in creating a customized approach!
What if I’m not ready or not a candidate for lip filler?
If you’re reading this, then you probably have an interest in lip filler injections or are in the research process of your skincare journey. If you’re not quite ready, that’s perfectly okay! There are other options that may be a better fit such as a lip flip using neuromodulators like Botox/Dysport. An aesthetic nurse will help guide you on different options you can consider during your consultation.
Our team of aesthetic providers are all hand-selected and have gone through rigorous education and training to provide the safest yet effective results with the latest industry trends and procedures. We prioritize patient safety and make sure our providers are up to standards with the latest laws and regulations. Schedule your complimentary consultation with an aesthetic nurse here!
